What is the Annual PIT Count?
The Point in Time (PIT) Count is an annual count of people experiencing sheltered and unsheltered homelessness carried out in January, typically on one night in urban areas with a week to collect all data in rural areas. Data collected through the PIT is reported to Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and used to inform policy, advance advocacy efforts, and understand the unique landscape of homelessness in Washington State. This count can often determine the type and amount of funding an area receives to address the complex issue of homelessness in their community.
Let’s Make it Count This Year!
How can you help? Everyone contributes as much or as little as they can. There are many ways you or your organization can support the count:

You can host an event where you provide hot food, warm coats, and a friendly face while you assist people in completing a count form.

You can donate items like socks, gloves, sleeping bags, or soft granola bars for those outreach workers going into the woods and far reaches of the county to locate people sheltering outside.

You can volunteer to be a counter in the field.
- ✓
You can support by sharing about the PIT Count on social media.
Please note, if you would like to host an event at a static location or volunteer to count in the field you will be required to complete the PIT Count training which may include a video or in-person training session.
